The Cork Main Drainage Scheme represents one of the largest engineering and environmental projects ever under-taken by a Local Authority in Ireland representing an investment of in excess of €300m in waste-water collection and treatment infrastructure for Cork City. The main elements of the scheme included a 2.6km tunnelled interceptor sewer, a pumping station delivering 2.45 m³/sec, a 3.5km inverted twin siphon across Lough Mahon Estuary and a wastewater treatment plant serving a population equivalent of 460,000 and treated effluent outfall to Cork Harbour.
